Apple Announces A Staggering 3 Million iPad 3 Sales Figure In Just 3 Days
Apple has just issued a press release regarding the new iPad’s first weekend sales results. According to the press release Apple sold more than 3 million iPad 3 units in just 3 days. This is definitely a strong start for Apple’s 3rd generation of iPad tablet. iPad 3 went on sale on Friday March 16th in US and 9 other countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the US Virgin Islands. Apple is all set to launch iPad 3 in 24 more countries on March 23rd which includes Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden which makes it the fastest product roll out ever.
“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”
Remember that Apple sold more that 300,000 iPads when it was launched originally back in 2010. The company didn’t release their iPad 2 launch results because of supply shortages but these iPad 3 sales figures are remarkable. Apple sold more than 4 million iPhone 4S units on first weekend after its launch in October last year. Comparing these number gives us a hint about the growth of iPad’s year over year sales. Apple is currently leading the tablet market with more than 53% share.
Earlier today Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced a $2.65 per share dividend program for it’s share holders and $10 billion stock buy back which will start from Q12013. He also mentioned about iPad 3′ record breaking sales but he didn’t mention an exact figure. AT&T also announced right after Tim Cooks conference call that they’ve sold a record breaking number of iPads in last three days.
Over all the new iPad had a really impressive launch in all countries and there’s more to come.
