Apple Patched Corona Untether In iOS 5.1 Beta 3, Update To iOS 5.0.1 While You Can
Who didn’t see it coming? As expected, Apple has patched Pod2G’s Corona Untether vulnerability in iOS 5.1 Beta 3. Pod2G found this vulnerability in iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 and worked on it to exploit it for achieving an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1.
Pod2G demoed his untethered jailbreak on an iPod Touch 3G almost a month ago which got us into THE “wait” cycle of an untethered jailbreak release. Later he narrowed his Corona Untethered jailbreak to iOS 5.0.1 only. But there was something which was causing delay in release of this untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 and that was Apple’s A5 processor. In order to focus on solving issues related A5 devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2) Pod2g handed over his Corona Untether to both iPhone-Dev Team and Chronic Dev team for packaging and release (non A5 devices).
iPhone-Dev team released pod2g’s Corona untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 (non A5 devices) in the form of redsn0w while Chronic Dev team released “Corona 5.0.1 Untether” Cydia Package to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered. It was expected that Apple would patch Pod2G’s Corona Untether exploit in their next iOS 5.1 update which is currently being tested by Apple Developers. Multiple iOS developers/hackers have confirmed that Apple has patched Corona Untether in latest iOS 5.1 beta 3.
Pod2G’s progress on unethered jailbreak for A5 devices was delayed by a lot problems, first it was A5 caching issue which was resolved when Jay Freeman aka saurik jumped in to help the developer. Then it was Sandboxing Issue which was causing the delay, it was resolved recently by collaboration of famous iOS hackers in the community. Pod2G along with his “Dream Jailbreak Team” which includes MuscleNerd, P0sixNinja, Saurik and PlanetBeing is very close to release an untethered jailbreak for A5 devices (iPhone 4S and iPad 2).
Again, if you’re still not using iOS 5.0.1 we recommend you to update your iOS device on iOS 5.0.1 and jailbreak them using redsn0w or Corona 5.0.1 Untether. Even if you rely on unlock you can preserve you baseband using redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze and update to iOS 5.0.1. Ultrasn0w has been updated to support iOS 5.0.1 (supported basebands only). Gevey SIM has also released an update to their FuriousMod which will make Gevey SIM work on iOS 5.0.1.So yeah; iOS 5.0.1 is the complete package.
Apple has already released 3 beta versions of their upcoming iOS 5.1 update. If they release iOS 5.1 publicly then you won’t be able to update your iOS devices to iOS 5.0.1 because Apple will stop signing iOS 5.0.1 once iOS 5.1 is out. Current jailbreak tools won’t support iOS 5.1 and you won’t be able to jailbreak iOS 5.1 with them.
You can download iOS 5.0.1 for your devices from our download section.
As always we will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
