Apple Plans To Bring Siri On Mac Via iPhone Pairing ?
A recent patent filing from Apple indicates that the company is interested in bringing their famous personal voice assistant Siri to Mac. Cupertino Calif. based consumer electronics giant is not planning to introduce it as an ‘out of the box’ feature but it will work by ‘pairing iPhone with Mac’. The patent application by the name of “Voice Control System” which was made public this week indicates the working of Voice Control System aka Siri on other electronic devices via pairing. Apple introduced personal voice assistant Siri in iPhone 4S in October last year. Though Apple kept it as an iPhone 4S exclusive features but developers and tinkerers have been busy finding ways to get it working on older iOS devices. Though they were successful enough to “run” Siri on older iOS devices but it still requires Auth Keys from iPhone 4S which means that if you want to run Siri on older iOS device you also need an iPhone 4S.
This recent patent application reveals how Siri actually works in iPhone 4S by a sophisticated combination of hardware and software. By now we all know that it is really hard to replicate that process on other devices but Apple has some other ways to do it which they explained in this filing. Users would be able to pair their iPhone 4S with other electronic devices such as Mac running OS X and extend Siri’s functionality to connected devices.
AppleInsider explained the patent application and how Siri would work on other device including Mac.
The application also describes ways that Siri could potentially be improved in the future when utilizing two different devices. In one example, a user teaches Siri a new voice command by speaking the word “Play” as they press the “play” button on the paired second electronic device. In another example, Siri could be configured to distinguish one person from another by the sound of their voice. This would allow the system to “train” itself to better recognize a user’s voice, or could even be used to provide custom controls for each individual user.
No matter how much we love to see Siri on Mac or iPod or iPad Apple has no plans to introduce Siri on any other iOS devices officially. One of the major reason why Siri is not available of devices other than iPhone is the “internet”, our iPhone stay connected to internet all the time but iPods and some models of iPads are not 3G/4G enabled which limit the functionality of Siri. By the looks of this filing I personally believe that the fruit company is going to keep it an iPhone exclusive feature in future as well.
