Apple Seeded Carriers With iOS 5 Final Version, New Features Included In Final Build
iOS 5 public release is just days away now and Apple has already seeded iOS 5 final build (GM) to carriers only for testing new features. This “Carrier Only” iOS 5 Final build has got more features than all beta versions of iOS 5 released till now.
According to sources of 9to5Mac:
“testing the feature, it works almost identically (video above) to the Android operating system’s speech-to-text feature. It’s also very polished, quick, and accurate said the source – which is obvious for being an Apple product but also is indicative of the product being nearly complete.”
Sources also suggest that carrier are specifically testing two major features, text-to-speech and FaceTime over 3G in iOS 5 final build. FaceTime was introduced with iOS 4 and iPhone 4 in 2010 but the feature didn’t gain considerable popularity, people wanted to take full advantage of FaceTime by using it over 3G but unfortunately FaceTime over 3G wasn’t supported.
Apple is also focusing on Naunce’s text-to-speech feature in this build, which works exactly like Android’s text-to-speech technology. Rumors about this feature stared back in May when Apple got into talks with Naunce for this technology.
Carriers are testing these two major features and also conducting some training sessions as well. The material which is being used to train employees is provided by Apple which includes PDF documents and presentations.
If everything goes well, you’dd be able to use these features in iOS 5 GM build and then iOS 5 public build which is coming this fall. iOS 5 GM build is expected to hit Apple’s Developers Portal very soon and it will be released along with iPhone 5 and iCloud services later this fall.
iOS 5, iCloud and iPhone 5 are expected to be released later this month or early October.
