Apple To Launch iPhone 5 At WWDC 2012 In June [Rumor]

With iPad 3 lined up for its launch next month rumors regarding Apple next iteration of iPhone are also getting wind. According to a recent report from Digitimes Apple is planning to launch 6th Generation of iPhone during their annual World Wide Developers Conference in June later this year. Apple launched iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 on WWDC opening keynotes but last year Apple deviated from their usual launch timeframe and introduced iPhone 4S in a special October event.

According to Digitimes:

Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 5 smartphone at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) to be held in June 2012, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted Daiwa Securities as indicating.

The iPhone 5 will continue to utilize glass to glass (G/G) touch panel technology which will benefit current touch panel suppliers TPK Holding and Wintek, the paper quoted the securities house as saying.

Now this is not the first report which to put up a summer launch date for next gen iPhone, iPhone 5. We’ve seen multiple reports in the past which claimed that Apple may get back on their usual “summer iPhone launch” track. The report also says that iPhone 5 is going to have a complete glass to glass touch panel utility. Well that sounds more like iPhone 4. In that case both Apple and it’s vendors like TPK and Wintek will do a profitable business.

Some previous reports and rumors have claimed that Apple would introduce a larger 4 inch display in iPhone 5 with a longer/wider form factor but John Gruber thinks that Apple would fit in a larger 4 inch display while maintaining the same form factor. I believe Apple can easily fit in a 4 inch display while maintaining the same form factor and they can also make it slimmer than currently available iPhone 4S. We’ve already talked about Sharp’s IGZO displays which are slimmer and consume less power than Apple’s current iPhone displays.

We don’t have official dates for this year’s WWDC conference but according to last year’s leaked WWDC plan this year it will take place between June 10th-15th. If you cross check these dates with Moscone’s calendar for this year you will notice that these dates are booked for a “Corporate Meeting” which is a place holder for WWDC.

We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned.
