Apple Working On 1.3 Megapixel Camera-Equipped iPod Nano, Launch In March-April ?

Some pictures of iPod Nano with a rear camera were leaked last year in March which lead to rumors of a possible iPod Nano upgrade with back camera. But we didn’t see any iPod Nano upgrade from Apple during last year but according to Apple.pro Apple is still working on bringing a camera in their iPod Nano series. The website also posted some pictures earlier today which showed an iPod Nano with same form factor as previous generation of iPod Nano but with a camera.

Now it was unclear whether these pictures were posted once again or these were some new pictures of alleged camera equipped iPod Nano. MIC Gadget now confirms that these latest pictures are just two months old and according to their internal source Apple is indeed working on an iPod Nano with a 1.3 Megapixel back camera.

It’s real, and it’s a two-month-old prototype that has big problems. It comes with an auto iris lens that can be affected by diffraction and blurring when the iris opening becomes too small in bright conditions. Ok, I gotta say it simply, it takes overexposed photos.

According to our factory sources, Apple have problems with the lens aperture for the next-gen iPod nano, the iris is not functioning correctly to allow the advantages of the low aperture to be utilized.

According to this report Apple has almost completed designing the UI features for this new camera but there’s a minor glitch. This 1.3 Mega pixel camera is taking overexposed pictures. In my opinion this issue is not a biggie for Apple and they will fix it soon (if this is THE issue). The report also mentioned a possible March-April launch date for this camera equipped iPod Nano.

Technically there’s nothing wrong in this report except the launch date but after last year’s huge deviation in iPhone launch plan we can expect something similar this year. iPhone was due in summer time frame but it was pushed back and was launched in October. Also, we didn’t see any significant improvements Apple’s iPod line up last year, only white version of iPod Touch 4G was released last year with a price drop. So in this case we can expect an early iPod Nano update. We can also expect a minor price drop in iPod line with a camera-equipped iPod Nano before Apple’s usual Fall launch timeframe.

We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned.
