Downgrade iOS 5.1.1 To iOS 5.0.1 On iPad 3, iPad 2 And iPhone 4S With Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 [Guide]
As promised, iPhone-Dev team has released Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 which allows you to downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.1 and iOS 5.0.1. iOS firmware downgrade was something which seemed impossible for all post A4 devices
because we don’t have a bootrom level exploit for A5 or A5X. A4 device, however, can be downgraded to previous versions of iOS firmware versions any time provided that you have saved your SHSH blobs. But now if you’ve lost your iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, with redsn0w 0.9.11b1 you can downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3 from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.1 or iOS 5.0.1.
Starting with redsn0w version 0.9.11b1, those with newer devices (iPad2, iPad3, and iPhone4S) can join the downgrade fun too! In a radical departure from previous versions of redsn0w, it now directly supports restoring IPSWs to your device. The first use of this new feature implements a hack that allows A5 downgrades without a bootrom-level exploit.
The process is a bit tricky, redsn0w 0.9.11b1 will first update your iOS firmware of your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or iPad 3 to the latest iOS version available and then downgrade it back to your previous version of iOS firmware. It is really important to note here that if you rely on iPhone 4S hardware unlock like Gevey SIM and R-SIM you should stay away from this process because it will update your baseband and you may loose your unlock.
This update involves a bunch of new redsn0w code. We recommend sticking to the previous version 0.9.10b8b unless you’re specifically using this new feature, until all the bugs are worked out! (Note: If redsn0w gets stuck at the “Waiting for device” stage for more than 30 seconds, you’ve hit a pesky GUI bug…that will be fixed in an upcoming version!)
Let’s get to the guide, shall we.
Things you will need during this process:
Step 1: Connect your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or iPad 3 to computer and back up your data.
Step 2: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 and got to Extras>Even more> Restore
Step 3: Select the firmware file which you want to downgrade to
Remember that you will still need iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file because this technique first updates your iOS device to latest iOS firmware version and then downgrades your iOS device to lower firmware version.
Step 4: If you have your SHSH blobs saved locally on your computer then select Local and point redsn0w to your locally saved blobs otherwise select Remote option
Important: You must have SHSH blobs saved either locally or on Cydia for this technique to work.
Step 5: Redsn0w will start cooking your IPSW file with saved SHSH blobs for restoration. This process can take a while so just stay put don’t touch anything.
And that was it, your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or iPad 3 should be kicking lower iOS firmware version. As iPad 3 was shipped with iOS 5.1 so that as low as you can get and wait for Pod2G’s iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak. If you have iPhone 4S or iPad 2 then you can go to iOS 5.0.1 and get an untethered jailbreak with resdsn0w by following our guide posted here.
We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
