Apple has seeded an updated version of iOS 5 (iOS 5.0.1 build 9A402) to developers earlier today. Surprisingly this update has been released for developers only, which indicates that this iOS 5.0.1 is also not finalized and Apple may bring some minor change in public version of iOS 5.0.1.
iOS 5 was publicly released on October 12th just two days before the official launch of iPhone 4S. After iPhone 4S’s launch on October 14th a lot of users reported battery drainage issue. Apple took this issue seriously and promised to release a software which will fix battery drainage issue.
Battery drainage wasn’t the only bug in public build of iOS 5, 9to5Mac also reported a smart cover bug which allowed anyone with a smart cover to hack in passcode protected iPad 2 and delete applications.
Talking about the changes in iOS 5.0.1, Apple has fixed smart cover bug in this release, battery drainage issue has also been fixed in this release of iOS 5.0.1 but this is not public. Apple promises to release an iOS 5.0.1 public build in coming weeks which will address iPhone 4S batter drainage issues specifically. In other changes, iOS 5.0.1 brings multitasking gestures for iPad 1 and it will also fix some bugs in iCloud service.

iOS 5.0.1 is available for registered Apple developers only and it is recommended that only registered developer download iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPad 2, and iPod Touch 4g from Apple Developer’s portal.
FYI: iOS 5.0.1 will expire for developers on Wednesday December 14th.
A public build of iOS 5.0.1 will be released in coming weeks.
