Facebook's Standalone Messenger App Gets Updated With Read Receipts And More Features

facebook-messenger

Don’t you just hate it when you send a Facebook message to someone and they don’t reply back and when they do they have a very solid excuse of “not reading” your message on time. Well, that’s not going to happen again, social networking giant Facebook pushed an update to their Messenger App for iOS and Android moments ago. One of the major feature in this updated version of Facebook Messenger app is Read Receipts, well this is exactly what some of us wanted from this app. You can now see whether someone or a group of people who you’re communicating with red your Facebook message or not.  Remember that this new Read Receipt feature is strictly limited to Facebook’s stand alone Messenger Application for now but the company will push an update for its Mobile app and later this feature will be included in the website as well. But why introducing this feature at all? Well TechCruch has a theory:

Product Manager Peter Deng tells “SMS has been around for 20 years, built it was for these T9 phones. We’re focused on leveraging all the capabilities of today’s devices to create a new messaging experience.” He also says these are just the start of app updates designed to make mobile conversations feel more real, as if you had body language cues and more to go by.

This is not the only update from Facebook, the new updated Messenger app would show from where that specific message was sent from if the users have attached their location with the message of course. This is not a feature feature but Facebook has improved how we can see location in our Facebook conversations. You will now get an exact location on the map from where that message was sent from. This is a really good feature if you’re having a conversation on the go, you can check whether the person you’re talking has left his place or not.

But some people may not fall in love with Facebook’s read receipts because right now you can’t switch them off. You can choose whether you want to attach your location or not but you can’y turn off read receipts like you do in iMessage. In my opinion Facebook should introduce something similar to iMessage in which users have more control over location and Read Receipts because some of us just don’t other people to know whether we read their messages or not.

Change Log:

Now it’s even easier to reach groups of friends on the go:
• Text friends for free (data rates may apply)
• Reach friends wherever they are now – on their phone or the web
• Know who’s seen your message, and who hasn’t
• See where friends are messaging you from

Also includes:
• Typing indicator – see when your friend is replying
• Bug fixes

Anyways, updated version of Facebook Messenger App for iOS is available for download in App Store, You can direactly download this app from here.
