Apple released iOS 5.1 as a major update along with the new iPad on March 7th. Jailbreakers and unlockers were advised to stay away from this update and the reasons were pretty clear 1) it carries two new basebands for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S 2) there is no jailbreak available for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1. So it’s good if you’re away from this iOS update. Though Apple changed a lot of things internally and fixed a lot of bugs but no major UI changes were introduced in iOS 5.1 EXCEPT new lock screen. Apple introduced a new lock screen in iOS 5.1 which has a permanent camera button. You can simply tap this new button and slide it up to quickly access Camera.app.
Camera button on lock screen was first introduced in iOS 5.0 but you had to double tap home button on lock screen to access it. With iOS 5.1 Apple made camera button permanent on lock screen and it was even easier to access Camera.app. If you’re still kicking iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.0 in your iPhone or iPod Touch because of any reason and you want to get all new iOS 5.1′s lock screen then you’re in luck. People who have jailbroken their iOS devices on iOS 5.0.1 can get a small tweak by the name of Camera Grabber which will bring iOS 5.1′s new lock screen.
Camera Grabber tweak works on iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1, people who are already on iOS 5.1 obviously don’t need it. We tested this tweak on iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1 and it worked perfectly fine. So if you were planning to update your iPhone or iPod Touch to iOS 5.1 then you really don’t need to do that. Camera Grabber brings the one and only UI change from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1.
