The good news has just hit the web folks. People who were waiting for an Apple TV 2 iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1) jailbreak can have the moments of rejoice because FireCore has just released an updated version of Seas0nPass which will jailbreak your Apple TV 2 on latest iOS 5.0. Remember that iOS 5.0 for Apple TV 2G is technically iOS 5.1 in general. The new Apple TV UI looks fantastic and if jailbreak was the only reason which was holding you back from updating your Apple TV 2G then it not there any more. This jailbreak is still tethered which means that you will have to connect your Apple TV 2G to PC or Mac and boot it in jailbroken state every time it reboots.
If you’re cool with a tethered jailbreak then this update perfectly fits your profile. Before you continue with the jailbreak process you should know that some jailbreak plugins are still broken on Apple TV 2G iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1) jailbreak. How To Jailbreak Apple TV 2G iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1
Things you will need during the process:
- Latest version of iTunes.
- Download Seas0nPass: Mac [10.6 or later] | Windows [XP or later]
- A micro USB cable will be required to complete the jailbreak process.
- Disconnect all iPods, iPhones, and iPads from the computer before running Seas0nPass.
Step 1: Unzip the ‘Seas0nPass.zip’ file which you downloaded from the link above and launch Seas0nPass.
Step 2: Click on ‘Create IPSW’ button to start iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1) tethered jailbreak process.
Step 3: In this step Seas0nPass will download latest iOS 5.0 (iOS 5.1) firmware and create a custom ‘jailbroken’ software file.
Step 4: Once the process is completed Seas0nPass will ask you to connect your Apple TV to your computer, connect your AppleTV to your Mac/PC using a micro-USB cable (leave power cable disconnected at this point).
Once the light on the front of the AppleTV begins to flash rapidly, point the remote at the AppleTV and hold both the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons for 7 seven seconds.
Important: This step will require the silver (aluminum) AppleTV remote that was included with the ATV2. The older, white (plastic) remotes will not work.
Step 5: iTunes will open automatically and start the restore process.
Step 6: iTunes will confirm the restore when complete – your AppleTV is now jailbroken!
Booting in Tethered Mode:
Step 1: Open Seas0nPass and select the ‘Boot Tethered’ option.
Step 2: When prompted, connect the AppleTV to your computer via USB. Wait for the rapid flashing light then connect the power. Once both are connected hold both the ‘MENU’ and ‘PLAY/PAUSE’ buttons for 7 seven seconds.
Step 3: Seas0nPass will complete the tethered boot automatically. Once complete, remove the USB cable and connect the HDMI cable.
