How To Share Your Computer's Internet With Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch via Ad-Hoc Network [Guide]
Though all iOS devices are equipped with WiFi but there are situations when you don’t have access to an active WiFi network. Let’s suppose you’re in your office where you just have access to your office’s LAN and there’s no WiFi network but how can you use it with your iPhone or iPad or even iPod Touch. Well there is an option to share your computer’s internet connection with your iOS device. It pretty simple on both Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. In this tutorial we will teach you how to share your computer’s internet on your iPhone or iPad by creating and Ad-Hoc network.
Couple of things which you should know before you proceed:
- You should have an internet connection on your computer be it LAN or Dial-Up/VPN or any other USB Internet Device
- If your Laptop is already connected to a WiFi network than this won’t work for you, you have to disconnect your laptop or computer from that WiFi network.
Let’s get started;
Step 1: If you’re using Windows 7 then click on your active internet connection from the task bar and click “Open Network and Sharing Center”
Step 2: There you will see an option to setup a new connection or network click it
Step 3: A new window will pop, scroll down to the bottom and click the last option which says “Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-computer) network”
Step 4: You should see some details about ad hoc networking click Next
Step 5: Now you will select a name and security type for your new ad hoc network, you can name it as you please. As far as the security is concerned I recommend that you should select No authentication from the drop down menu, doing so will make your life much easier. Click Next after completing everything.
Step 6: After like 20-30 seconds your computer will show you a success message that your ad hoc network is ready to use.
Step 7: Click on “Turn on internet connection sharing” from the same success message window and you’re golden.
Step 8: You will see a success message that Internet connection sharing has been enabled.
Step 9: Pick up your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or all of them and go to Settings>Wi-Fi and select your ad hoc network
Step 10: Last thing before you start browsing, go to Settings>Wi-Fi and click on blue arrow right next to your ad hoc network’s name, toggle Auto-join option to ON.
That’s it guys you should be available to start browsing your computer’s shared internet on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Let me know if you face any problem during the process.
