Intel To Launch Ivy Bridge Architecture Based Xeon Processors By The End Of June, Mac Pro Will Finally Get An Update

Mac Pro is Apple most powerful computing machine but the company has not been giving much attention to MacP ro lineup lately. Apple updated this lineup more than two years ago and we haven’t seen any significant changes since then. It seems like Apple would be updating Mac Pro very soon because Intel is planning to release next generation of Xeon processors based on Intel’s all new Ivy Bridge architecture. Just like Mac Pro, Intel’s Xeon processor have not seen any major upgrade in last 2 years and current Xeon E5 series processors are based on Sandy Bridge architecture.

According to industry sources Intel is set to release their next generation of Xeon processors by the end of June. Sources also told that upcoming Xeon processors will be based on Intel’s new Ivy Bridge architecture. Remember that Intel is set to release their Core i5 and Core i7 Ivy Bridge processors by the end of April while Core i3 processors will be released later in July-August time frame.

A major question here would be; is Apple planning to update their Mac Pro lineup with Ivy Bridge Xeon processors? AppleInsider recently noted that Mac Pro buyer are facing unusual delay in their orders, Apple usually ships custom configured Mac Pro in 3-5 business days but in this particular case where a Mac Pro buyer placed order in the end March the shipment date was pushed back to April 11th.

Mac Pro is not a hot shot lineup for Apple but a lot of people are eagerly waiting for a major update. We’ve also noticed  Mac Pro supply constraints on leading online retailers which indicates a possible refresh. Mac Pro won’t be the only major update this year, Apple is bringing a radical change in their notebooks. HowToArena reported about 15 inch MacBook Pro refresh in April. New 15 inch MacBook Pros with thinner form factor will be powered by Intel’s Core i5 and Core i7 Ivy Bridge processors.

HowToArena also reported about possible iMac refresh in June-July time frame with Core i5 and Core i7 Ivy Bridge processors.

We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
