Pod2g's iOS 5 Untether Will Work On iOS 5.0.1 [Confirmed]

iOS-5-jailbreak

Pod2g, famous iOS developer and member of Chronic Dev showed off his latest iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak couple of days ago. iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak was demoed on an iPod Touch 3G running iOS 5.0.1 so a lot of people asked about it’s working on iOS 5.0.1. Pod2g has now confirmed that his exploit which can jailbreak iOS 5.0 untethered indeed works on iOS 5.0.1.

Pod2g announced this news in a twitter update earlier today,

Pod2g: Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update.

Important: People who rely on iPhone unlock should stay away from stock iOS 5.0.1 update.

Well it’s not going to be that simple, as you all know that we’ve warned our readers on several occasions that DO NOT update your iOS devices which are currently running iOS 5.0 to iOS 5.0.1. That’s because you won’t be able to downgrade to iOS 5.0 in future because blobs saved using TinyUmbrella are not useful and enough for downgrading your device iOS 5.0 from iOS 5.0.1 and above. Though iPhone-Dev has resolved this APTicket issue but an updated version of redsn0w has not been released as yet.

We DO have another solution here, you can save your iOS device’s SHSH using iFaith which fully supports iOS 5.x.x.

If you’ve saved your iOS 5.0′s SHSH blobs you’re good to update it to iOS 5.0.1. There will be an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 in the form of Greenpois0n very soon. It is highly likely that Pod2g’s exploit will be used by other Dev Teams as well which means that we will see redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze updates which would be able to jailbreak your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad 1 ruunig iOS 5.0.1 untethered.

Remember that it is still not confirmed whether this exploit works on A5 devices (iPhone 4S, iPad 2) or not. iPhone-Dev team is also working on one of their own iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak which is also in it’s preliminary state and we don’t  have an exact launch date.

We will keep you updated  on this, stay tuned!
