iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Is Just Days Away, Pod2G
Right now, iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is the most awaited thing in jailbreak community. Famous iOS hacker and member of Chronic Dev team Pod2G has been working on iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak from quite some time now. Pod2G just updated about its progress and folks we have a good news, according to his latest Twitter update iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is just around the corner and we can expect it in coming days.
Thanks to awesome work of @planetbeing and @pimskeks, we’re near ready for a release. Now it’s a matter of days.
Pod2G started working on iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak from the day it was launched but as we were getting close to iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak release Apple released a minor iOS 5.1.1 update. Vulnerabilities which Pod2G discovered in iOS 5.1 were still alive in iOS 5.1.1 so it was pretty clear that his exploits would work in iOS 5.1.1 as well. Pod2G began testing his untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1.1 and viola it worked. So far, iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak works on almost every iOS device which supports this iOS firmware version.
At first, it was feared that this untethered jailbreak won’t support older iOS devices like iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G but later Pod2G found a solution and posted that this jailbreak will work on every iOS device. Right now, we’re in final phase of this jailbreak release. In this phase, hackers usually work on stabilizing the untether in order to avoid any crashes during or after the run.
Remember that, this would be the first jailbreak of iPad 3 aka the new iPad. Even though iPad 3 was jailbroken within 24 hours of its release but we don’t have a public jailbreak as yet. List of supported iOS devices is posted below:

Pod2G is not the only hacker who is working on iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak but we have other renowned iOS hackers on board as well. PlanetBeing, who also played a huge roll in iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak is working with Pod2G. MuscleNerd of iPhone-Dev team is also working on this untethered jailbreak.
It is highly likely that iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak would be available in coming days. We will post complete guides for every supported iOS device.
