iPad 3 Gets Untethered Jailbreak On iOS 5.1.1 [Photo]
Famous iOS hacker and the guy behind iOS 4.x.x untethered jailbreak — i0n1c demoed his iPad 3 jailbroken on Apple latest iOS 5.1.1. Apple pushed out a minor iOS 5.1.1 update which fixed bugs reported in iOS 5.1. i0n1c was also one of the 3 hackers who demoed iPad 3 jailbreak on the day one of it’s launch the other two were MuscleNerd of iPhone-Dev team and CHPWN. i0nic posted a picture of his iPad 3 running iOS 5.1.1 jailbroken, remeber that i0n1c made it clear last time that out of those three iPad 3 jailbreaks which were demoed on day one only his jailbreak was untethered. So we can assume that this iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak on iPad 3 is untethered as well.
The hacker also made it clear last time that he is not going to release his (un)tethered jailbreak for iPad 3 publicly. This also started a huge Twitter battle on whether jailbreaks should be available for free or not. But then again it’s his exploit, his work and he owns it. He can keep his exploits or release them, there’s nothing much left to say in this regard. iOS 5.1.1 has been jailbroken like iOS 5.1 using redsn0w 0.9.10b8b but the jailbreak is limited to non A5 devices only and it’s tethered. In tethered jailbreak you have to connect your device to computer and boot it in jailbroken state every time you reboot it.
As far as jailbreak for iPad 3 and other A5 device (iPhone 4S, iPad 2) is concerned, we already have Pod2g working onan untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1. Pod2G has been actively working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 on all iOS device. So far he has successfully jailbreaked his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 untethered but frequent updates from the hacker suggest that he’s getting there.
Just like iOS 5.0.1′s untethered jailbreak iOS 5.1′s untethered jailbreak would also be first released by Chronic Dev team and then we can expect a redsn0w update from iPhone-Dev team as well. There’s is no exact release date available for iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 5.1 untetherd jailbreak but we strongly recommend A5 device users specially iPad 3 users to stay away from iOS 5.1.1. You won’t be able to downgrade (for now) your iPad 3 once you update it to iOS 5.1.1 and you can loose your only chance to get a jailbreak on your iPad3. so, DO NOT update your iOS device to iOS 5.1.1.
We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
