iPhone 4 iOS 5 Baseband 4.11.08 Unlock Information, Everything You Need To Know

iphone4_

With the release of Apple next gen iOS 5 mobile operating system a new baseband (4.11.08) was also introduced. We have a huge number of iPhone 4 users who rely on unlocks to make their iPhone 4 run on other carriers. And a lot people asked me to about iPhone 4 4.11.08 baseband unlock and i thought of writing a complete post about it to clear out a few things.

First we’ll begin with basics of iPhone 4 unlock, iPhone 4 baseband unlock has been of great discussion since it’s release, there are two types of unlocks for iPhone 4, a software unlock and a hardware unlock.

There’s only one version of iPhone 4 baseband which can be unlocked with software (Ultrasn0w 1.2.4) and that is initial baseband 1.59.00. and later basebands are unlocked using Gevey  SIM. Gevey SIM proved to be a very solid solution for iPhone 4 unlock which was stuck from quite some time. Anyhow iPhone 4 users who had following basebands were able to unlock their devices to run on carriers other than AT&T using GEVEY SIM:

  • 04.10.01
  • 03.10.01
  • 02.10.04
But there’s a problem now, with iOS 5 Apple introduced a new baseband 4.11.08 and some people unintentionally upgraded their iPhone 4 to iOS 5 in a result they lost their unlocks and most of them were on baseband 4.10.01. Some users who were familiar with baseband preservation saved themselves from baseband upgrade. Here’s are some questions from people who are stuck on baseband 4.11.08,

How to unlock iPhone 4 Baseband 4.11.08 ?

iOS 5 was released publicly on October 12th and some iPhone 4 users upgraded their devices without the knowledge of baseband upgrade. Well, some of them were lucky enough to downgrade their baseband from 4.11.08 to 4.10.0, we also posted a guide about it. Downgrading firmware downgrades your baseband BUT ONLY while Apple signs previous version of iOS with lower baseband in this case its was iOS 4.3.5 with 4.10.0 baseband. A lot of people downgraded their baseband to 4.10.0 and unlocked using Gevey SIM   but a few got stuck because Apple stopped signing iOS 4.3.5 on October 18th.

I mentioned two unlock methods above for iPhone 4 and unfortunately both of them won’t work for you if you’re stuck on baseband 4.11.08 after iOS 5 upgrade.

Will Downgrading Firmware To iOS 4.3.5 Help Unlock iPhone 4?

Well this was the only hope we had, but this window was closed on October 18th when Apple stopped signing iOS 4.3.5. There’s a huge misconception that downgrading firmware ANYTIME will help you downgrade your baseband and unlock iPhone 4 on 4.11.08 but this is not how it works. You can downgrade your firmware anytime if you’ve saved your SHSH blobs  but that DOES NOT mean that you can downgrade your baseband anytime you want. It’s pretty simple, you can only downgrade your baseband with firmware downgrade while Apple signs previous version of iOS. After Apple stops signing a specific version of firmware, you can only downgrade to that firmware but you won’t be able to downgrade your baseband.

What should I do now?

Wait. That’s the best thing you can do now. Developers always working to find solution for such problems, and they’re working on solving this problem as well. Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do now to downgrade your iOS 5 baseband 4.11.08 to 4.10.0 or any other BB and unlock it using GEVEY SIM. Don’t get fooled by scams who claim that they can unlock you iPhone 4 on 4.11.08. If ANY solution comes out, we will definitely report it here.
