iPhone 4S And iPad 2 Jailbroken On iOS 5, No ETA For Public Release

iOS-5-untethered-jailbreak (2)

A sigh of relief for iPhone 4S and specially iPad 2 owners, iPhone-Dev team has demoed iPad 2 and iPhone 4S workig jailbreak on iOS 5 earlier today. This is a really good news for iPad 2 owners for sure because most of iPad 2 owners are deprived from a jailbreak because the only solution available to jailbreak iPad 2 is JailbreakMe 3.0 and it only works on iOS 4.3.3.

The announcement regarding iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreak on iOS 5 was made earlier today by iPhone-Dev team’s prominent member MusceNerd on his twitter account. He tweeted:

VERY preliminary 4S JB:http://twitpic.com/76vcp4http://twitpic.com/76vct2 (Huge missing pieces prevent public release. LOTS of work left)

In another tweet he demoed a working iPad 2 jailbreak on iOS 5, he said:

Here’s a short video of current JB working on iPad2: (Just like iPhone4S, lots of hurdles remain, no ETAs)

So now it has been officially confirmed that iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak on iOS 5 is underway and it’s almost complete. There are coupe of things which are still unclear and iPhone-Dev team didn’t revealed much of info because of obvious reasons. We still don’t know what kind of exploit is being used to jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2, whether it’s a bootrom low-level exploit as we mentioned in our post couple of days ago or a userland exploit.

If it’s a bootrom exploit then it’s definitely going to be major news in jailbreak community, a bootrom exploit will not only jailbreak iOS 5 devices carrying an A5 processor but it will also allow developers to port iPhone 4S’ major features Siri to older iOS devices like iPad 2, iPad 2 , iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. iPhone-Dev team usually don’t use userlands exploits in their jailbreaking tool redsn0w so there’s a great possibility that iPhone-Dev team may have found a working A5 bootrom level exploit which will be used to jailbreak any device carrying an A5 processor for life.

In-case you’re wondering about those 5 bootrom level exploits which were discovered by Chronic Dev team and announced on MyGreatFest earlier in September, well there’s no update on them and no iPhone 4S or iPad 2 jailbreak information has been released by Chronic Dev team regarding their status.

Now a big question is about iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak release date, MuscleNerd made it very clear that this jailbreak is still in it’s early stages and no ETA can be confirmed at this point in time. But one thing is pretty clear here, both these devices have been jailbroken and the next step would be to stabilize this jailbreak on both devices and release it pubically.

iOS 5 has already been jailbroken using redsn0w o.9.9b5 and Sn0wBreeze 2.8b8, the jailbreak is still tethered and it’s limited to iPad 1, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4G.

We will, keep you update on this, stay tuned!
