References Of Faster iPhone 5 Equipped With A5X Processor And iPod touch 5 Found In iOS 5.1
Next generation of iPhone is due in October later this year and folks over 9to5Mac have found references of Apple’s next iteration of iPhone in iOS 5.1. This experimental version of iPhone is not what Apple would release in market but it’s a version which they would use internally for testing purpose only. It is highly speculated that Apple would change overall form factor of iPhone later this but these specific prototypes are being testing in iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S casing (same thing). This is exactly what Apple did in case of iPhone 4S, the company kept on testing iPhone 4S with faster A5 processor inside their campus before release.
According to the information which was listed in iOS 5.1′s code .plists files, iPhone 5 would also carry an A5X processor. This
prototype iPhone is also kicking S5L8945X processor which is already available in iPad 3 aka “the new iPad”. Apple released their third generation of iPad with this very same A5X processor in March earlier this year. A5X is a dual core processor but it has a quad core GPU makes graphics up to 3x faster than A5. Just like the new iPad this internal testing prototype iPhone 5 codename N96 with A5X processor also carries 1GB of RAM. As mentioned by by 9to5Mac:
This prototype is labeled N96 internally, but we’re not sure if this internal codename will carry over to the actual next-generation iPhone. Again, this iPhone that we are describing is an internal-only unit built for testing the performance of a new chip in an iPhone, not an actual phone that Apple will produce.

This is just half of the the story, references of a new iPod touch 5th generation also exist in the very same .plists file. Apple didn’t update their iPod touch line up along with iPhone 4S but released a White variant of iPod touch 4G along with iPhone 4S in October last year. It is still not clear whether Apple is planing to introduce A5 or A5X processor in iPod touch 5G. But a lot of people have been waiting for this update from a long time.
Personally I believe Apple would introduce an A5 dual core processor in next iteration of iPod touch. There is no information available on exact launch date of both these products but assuming an iPod touch and iPhone upgrade together we can say that Apple may release them in Fall (September-October) later this year.
We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
