iPhone-Dev Team Successfully Resolved Blob Monster Issue, Updated Redsn0w Release Imminent

iOS-5-jailbreak

iPhone-Dev team has successfully resolved Apple’s new and very smart APTicket technique which was introduced in iOS 5 Beta 2 earlier this year. An updated version of redsn0w will be released very soon which will make your iOS 5.x and above saved blobs useful.

This announcement was made earlier today on twitter by iPhone-Dev team’s prominent member MuscleNerd:

Upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches)

For time being, please just use most recent TU to save 5.0.1 blobs+APTicket…redsn0w will do the rest, should you need to restore. He added

Though TinyUmbrella was being updated constantly for iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 but SHSH blobs which were saved using TinyUmbrella were not useful because users were not able to downgrade their devices even if they had their SHSH saved. This was happening because of Apple’s new APTicket technique which first reported after iOS 5 Beta 2 release. This new APTicket works more like BBTicket which stops iOS device users from downgrading their device.

iPhone-Dev team will release an updated version of redsn0w which will first verify your device’s saved SHSH and then stitch them to make a custom firmware. Well that’s how we believe it’s going to work, more details will revealed after release of updated redsn0w.

This, for sure, is a good news for people who are still on iOS 5.0 and din’t update their device because there was no way to downgrade back on iOS 5.0. Though we still recommend you guys to stay on iOS 5.0 but you can upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 IF you want to.

Important: Save your SHSH blobs right now using latest version of TinyUmbrella before you do anything else.

It is still unclear whether upcoming redsn0w will bring any new jailbreak or an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0, iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.1 beta. We know that iPhone-Dev has successfully jailbroken iPhone 4S and iPad 2 on iOS 5 but we have no ETA. So there’s a slim chance that iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners might get lucky this time. iPhone-Dev Team has also dumped iPhone 4S baseband bootrom which means that updated version of Ultrasn0w will also support iPhone 4S unlock.

Here’s how we believe things are working at iPhone-Dev:

1) Fix iOS 5.xx Blob monster (Done)

2) Untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 and above (Pending)

3) iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak on  iOS 5 (Done- Not publicly released)

4) Ultrasn0w update which will support iPhone 4S baseband 1.0.11 (Done – Not released yet)

After today’s announcement the package looks complete and solid. We still cannot confirm any launch date but we’re VERY near.

We will keep you updated  on this, stay tuned!
