Pod2G Successfully Achieves An Untethered Jailbreak On iPhone 4

ios-5.1-untethered jailbreak

Fellow jailbreakers, we have a good news for you. Pod2G has successfully jailbreaked his iPhone 4 untethered on iOS 5.1. The announcement was made in a Twitter update earlier today in which the hacker mentioned that his iPhone 4 is now running iOS 5.1 jailbroken untethered. Pod2G has been working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 for quite some time and judging by the progress of his work we assume that it’s not that far. Though iOS 5.1 has already been jailbroken but it’s limited to non A5 device only which means that people who’re kicking iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the new iPad can’t jailbreak their device (un) tethered.

Pod2G recently updated about his progress on iOS 5.1 untetherd jailbreak and announced that he found 2 new vulnerabilities (1 kernel land and 1 root land) in iOS 5.1. However, it is still unclear whether these two new vulnerabilities would be used in upcoming jailbreak or not. This untethered jailbreak would be one of it’s kind, p0sixninja of Chronic Dev team already mentioned that iOS 5.1′s untethered jailbreak uses more exploits than any other jailbreak ever released.  It is also important to note here that this would be first jailbreak for the new iPad and millions of people who’re using the new iPad aka iPad 3  are eagerly waiting for this one. Though iPad 3 has be jailbroken by three different dev team but non of these jailbreaks are publicly available as yet.

Pod2G has been frequently updating about iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak progress via blog and Twitter updates. Hacker recently updated that he has successfully bypassed iOS 5.1′s ASLR which is one of the most crucial steps in any jailbreak release process. It’s really important to note here that this update only gives us a minor hint that we’re getting there, this update does not mean that iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak would be released in coming days. The process testing is very lengthy and Pod2G just reported about his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak, there are many other iOS devices which are yet to be tested.

As always we don’t have an exact release date for this jailbreak but these quick updates from Pod2G indicates that we’re “getting there”.

We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
