Microsoft Shows No Love For Apple Products, Bans Their Purchase Worldwide
Not surprising at all, ZDNet is now reporting that Microsoft has banned purchase of Macs and iPads from “corporate funds”. Any Microsoft employee is not allowed to buy Apple product from company funds to be precise. The notification regarding this recent ban was issued via email which Mary Jo Foley acquired through her sources, it is clearly mentioned in the email that according to this new policy purchase of Macs and iPads is prohibited. Redmond based software giant is Apple arch rival in computer industry and now the mobile phone industry as well. This is not for the first time that MSFT has released such absurd policy, we’ve seen this in the past when the company banned iPhone, Blackberrys and Palm device back in 2009.
The notification was rolled out to 46,00 employees from SMSG (Microsoft’s Sales, Marketing, Services, IT, & Operations Group) in an “alleged” email.

Within SMSG we are putting in place a new policy that says that Apple products (Mac & iPad) should not be purchased with company funds.
In the US we will be turning off the Apple products from the Zones Catalog next week, which is the standard purchasing mechanism for these products.
Outside of the US — we will work with your finance and procurement teams to send the right message and put the right processes in place.
The current purchase levels are low, however we recognize there will be a bit of transition work associated with this. Details of historical purchases in the US are provided in the attachment to help understand the changes that will be needed.Thank you for your support and leadership on this.

Microsoft denied to comment on this issue which makes it look more authentic. Now there’s are two sides of this picture, in my personal opinion this is not a good move because you cannot improve your product if you don’t use your competitors offering but some people may think otherwise. Microsoft is about to jump in new era of tablet industry and I believe they need to use products like iPad to know what a great product really is and same goes for Macs. Then again it’s just a personal opinion.
What do you think about this move by Microsoft?
We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
