Pod2G Is Actively Working On iOS 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak
The jailbreak developers community becomes really active after the release of an iOS update. Some thing similar happened last week when Apple released a major iOS 5.1 update, every dev team entered the first phase of jailbreak cycle and we got a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 within 24 hours of it’s release. Later another iOS hacker iH8Sn0w released Sn0wbreeze 2.9.2 which was also updated with iOS 5.1 tethered jailbreak support. So the community is actively working on looking for vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1 which can be exploited to achieve an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1. The current tethered jailbreak also has some limitations, it only works on non A5 devices which means iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners who rely on jailbreaking are deprived of a (un)tethered jailbreak.
After the release of iOS 5.0 in October last year Pod2G who has been playing a major role in jailbreaking community announced that he has found vulnerabilities in both iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1 which can be exploited to achieve an untethered jailbreak on A4 and A5 devices. After 3 months of hard work Pod2G released an untethered jailbreak for all A4 device and later the same Corona 5.0.1 Untether which was used to jailbreak non A5 device was released in the form of Absinthe jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
Apple patched Pod2g’s Corona 5.0.1 Untether in iOS 5.1 beta 2 and iOS 5.1 beta 3 so the developers have to work from scratch to achieve an untethered jailbreak for all iOS device on iOS 5.1. iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners who have upgraded their device and lost their jailbreak can rejoice now because Pod2G who gave us an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 is now actively working on finding vulnerabilities in iOS 5.1. The announcement was made in a Twitter reply earlier today Pod2g announced that he is actively working on iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak.
But those of you who are waiting eagerly waiting for iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak should remember that it took almost three months to mature and stabilize iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for public release. So it can take a lot of time to find the vulnerabilities first and then exploit them to achieve an untethered jailbreak so you need to hang in there tight.
In other news i0n1c who is also a famous iOS security expert and the guy behind iOS 4.x.x untethered jailbreak strangely asked everyone to download Kokao Talk Messenger app from the app store. According to some experts this app may have a security hole which could be fruitful for jailbreak iOS 5.1. But nothing has been confirmed for their end as yet.
We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
