Pod2G Now Has A Working iOS 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak For iPad 3

ipad 3 iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak

The whole picture of  iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak was disrupted by Apple’s minor iOS 5.1.1 update which was released just couple of days ago. Though Apple didn’t patch any exploits which is a good news but yes this minor update would slow down the process of releasing an untethered jailbreak for all iOS devices. Pod2G who is actively working on jailbreaking all iOS device running iOS 5.1 has a good news for the jailbreaking community specially iPad 3 owners. In a Twitter update earlier today, hacker announced that he has successfully jailbreaked his iPad 3 which is running iOS 5.1. Remember that all iPad 3 aka the new iPad were shipped with iOS 5.1.

Hey. iPad 3,1 running iOS 5.1 untethered. Next on the list: stabilizing the payload, then trying 5.1.1.

Almost a week ago Pod2G announced the successful testing of iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on his iPhone 4. But A4 devices as not of major concern here because all non A5 device already have a jailbreak on iOS 5.1 thanks to GeoHot’s limera1n exploit which is still juicing up all non A5 iOS device. However, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the all new iPad are of major concern, though 3 different dev team demoed their (un)tethered jailbreak on iPad 3 soon after it’s public release on March 17th but still we don’t have a public jailbreak for any A5 device (iPhone 4S, iPad 2) running iOS 5.1 or iOS 5.1.1.

Pod2G also mentioned in his tweet that the next step would be stabilizing the payload which in “simple English” mean that he’s now working on making this jailbreak distributable. After working on a stable release Pod2G plans to attempt on jailbreaking iOS 5.1.1. This new update as I mentioned above can create some delay in iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak release but it would be fruitful because a lot of people have already updated their iOS device to iOS 5.1.1.

This situation is like a flashback of what happened with iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak. Let me give you a quick summary of that: Pod2G discovered an exploit in iOS 5.0 and started working on it and right when we were getting close to a release date Apple released iOS 5.0.1 update and the jailbreak was delayed and it was released for devices running iOS 5.0.1.

We’re not certain but their is a possibility that this jailbreak would be released for iOS devices running iOS 5.1.1. But on other the hand we have a good news from iPhone-Dev team who announced that next version of Redsn0w (redsn0w 0.9.11b1) would be capable of downgrading iPhone 4S iPad 2 and iPad 3 to a lower firmware version which gives us a sigh of relief that even if this untethered jailbreak is released for iOS 5.1 you would be able to downgrade your devices from iOS 5.1.1 and jailbreak them on iOS 5.1.

But nothing is confirmed right now.

We will keep you updated on this, stay tuned!
