Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 Will Fix iBooks DRM Issues On iOS 5.0.1, Download Now
Achieving an untethered jailbreak on iOS 5 especially A5 devices was definitely a hard nut to crack. It all started back in October when Apple released iOS 5 publicly and a new jailbreak cycle was initiated. If you’ve been a jailbreaker from quite some time then you must be familiar with the jailbreak cycle, let me quickly break it down for people who are new to jailbreaking. First an iOS update is released, then comes a tethered jailbreak (which takes a little time) and then an untethered jailbreak (which can take a lot of time) in between tethered and untethered jailbreak we see tons of scams.
Though iPhone-Dev team was independently working on an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 but this time Pod2G was the one who managed to crack it. Corona Untether exploit was found and used by Pod2G to achieve and untethered jailbreak on iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1. Corona worked on all iOS devices including iPhone 4S and iPad 2 but these two devices caused a lot of delay.
During Christmas and New Year holidays iPhone-Dev team and Chronic Dev team released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 but it was limited to non A5 devices including iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and iPad 1. There were numerous issues in A5 jailbreak, first it was A5 caching issue which was causing the delay and them it was Sandox. Pod2G formed a Dream Team which included some of the famous names from jailbreak community like MuscleNerd, P0sixNinja, PlanetBeing and Pod2G himself. And the magic worked, a fully working untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 was released in the form Absinthe and CInject.
Now a lot of people who jailbroke their devices using Corona 5.0.1 Untether were facing DRM issues with iBooks. Several users reported that images and text have been getting displayed incorrectly when reading or viewing books which are protected by DRM. PlanetBeing worked on this issue and it has been fixed successfully. iPhone-Dev team has released an updated version of redsn0w 0.9.10B5 to fix iBooks issue on your iOS devices.
Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 Release Notes:
redsn0w version b5 incorporates yet another fix for iBooks, this time involving DRM. @planetbeing wrote a utility called “crazeles” that overcomes jailbreak detection by iBooks that would cause about 10% of images to show incorrectly. This fix is similar to the “hunnypot” fix that @comex wrote for the 4.x jailbreak. As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose).
TIP: If auto-detection fails and redsn0w tells you no identifying data was found, you can always pre-select theappropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using “Extras->Select IPSW”.
