Redsn0w Is Getting A Major Update, Will Fetch SHSH Blobs! Release On Sunday
MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev team has just revealed plans about future release of redsn0w. He announced that redsn0w is getting a major update very soon with a lot of new features, this is definitely going to be one of the major update in years.
In a twitter update musclenerd said:
Will be pushing out a major redsn0w feature upgrade before my trip to Korea:http://is.gd/PMAdT1 (and look, no IPSW selection button!)
If you don’t know about redsn0w, it’s a one of the first jailbreaking tools which was released. MuscleNerd also pointed toward removal of IPSW selection button which was found in all previous builds of redsn0w. You had to browse for an IPSW file manually and then jailbreak it but now you won’t need an IPSW file because after this update redsn0w will fetch the necessary files directly from Apple for you.
In replies to multiple questions regarding removal of IPSW selection button MuscleNerd said:
@mahockey1 it automatically fetches the important pieces directly from Apple (and caches them so that it never needs to re-fetch them again)
Another important feature is regarding SHSH blobs, this new version of redsn0w will fetch SHSH blobs and upload them directly to Cydia server.
@MuscleNerd: So redsn0w is going to feth blobs just like iFaith?
@zaone: it fetches them but in a way that is cryptographically verifiable and uploadable directly to the Cydia server
You can see in the picture below that this massive redsn0w update is under-construction from iOS 5 Beta 5 release. Nothing has been removed from redsn0w except iPad BB pacthing for iPhone 3GS users it’s not visible in released pictures but iPhone-Dev teams may add it in final release of updated redsn0w.
This updated will also allow you to kick your iOS device out of Recovery Loop which jailbreakers often face after restoring their devices with iTunes. There are still some option which are not explained by MuscleNerd like Stitching of IPSW file with specific SHSH blobs so we cannot say anything about that option but we believe that this version of redsn0w would also allow your to create and restore custom IPSW files.
This version will support iOS 5 beta version but as we know that these beta releases are specifically for developers so you will have to select iOS 5 Beta IPSW manually.
@littlesteve yep, partialzip. Also to clarify: it won’t auto-fetch the betas (since they’re not public). You need to provide them (once).
This update is definitely going to change everything and make redsn0w an all-in one jailbreaking tool. Talking about the release MuscleNerd said that he will release it before he leaves for Korea. He is leaving for Korea on coming Monday so we can expect this massive redsn0w update on Saturday or Sunday.
We will keep you updated about this, stay tuned!
