And they’ve done it again, famous iOS hacker and developer Ryan Petrich in collaboration with Steven Troughton-Smith and chpwn has successfully ported Siri to iPhone 3GS. The build is complete and it’s fully working. Siri was ported to iPhone 4 couple of days ago by Steven Troughton-Smith and chpwn and they demoed it on a video as well.
Siri port to iPhone 3GS has also been demoed on video and it looks perfectly all right . iPhone 3GS is Apple’s 2009 jewel which is still being supported by Apple in software updates and it will do so till 2012. Siri experience on iPhone3GS may be a little glitchy because of older hardware iPhone 3GS possesses but the video shows that it works like Siri on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
Siri was released as a major feature in iPhone 4S earlier in October this year and it just blew away everyone. It’s a sophisticated personal voice assistant which takes your voice commands and do simple tasks on your iPhone for you without a hassle. But the thing which most of Apple fans didn’t like was the exclusivity to iPhone 4S, yes, Siri is an iPhone 4S exclusive feature and no other older iOS device is going to get it officially in near future.
When it became clear that Siri won’t be coming on iPhone 3GS , iPod Touch, iPad and any other older iOS device developers started to find a way to port Siri to older iOS devices. And eventually they did it, first a GUI only port came in and after that a complete Siri port to iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G by chpwn and Steven Troughton-Smith but they didn’t release it publicly and explained the reason afterwards.
Now that Ryan Petrich in collaboration with Steven Troughton-Smith and chpwn, he also didn’t release the port publicly because it is illegal right now.
